The 2026 T20 World Cup is constantly surrounded by controversies, which is scheduled to start from February 7. There are less than three weeks left for this World Cup to be hosted by India and Sri Lanka. As each day passes, the concern of cricketers of Pakistani origin must be increasing. Actually, the news is that the visas of about 42 cricketers and officials of Pakistani origin have not been approved yet.
Due to visas being in limbo, many countries have not yet announced their squads for the T20 World Cup. Now the International Cricket Council (ICC) has intervened in this matter. USA has also not announced its team, in which Ali Khan and Shayan Jahangir will be playing. There are also players of Pakistani origin in the teams of Netherlands and England. However, according to PTI, the visas of Adil Rashid, Rehan Ahmed and Saqib Mahmood have been cleared.
ICC took responsibility
ICC has taken up the responsibility of providing visas to the cricketers of Pakistani origin included in the T20 World Cup teams. The ICC is in constant touch with Indian High Commissions across the world. Its objective is to ensure that all players and officials get visas without any delay or hassle. The last date for obtaining visa is 31 January.
The countries whose players’ visas are stuck mainly come from Bangladesh, USA, UAE, Bangladesh, Italy and Canada. Visa appointments for all of them were scheduled about three weeks ago, but now the process is in its final stages.
Why is there a delay?
India conducts additional checks while providing visas to people of Pakistani origin. Clearance is required from many departments before the visa can be approved. The last and most important is the clearance from the Home Ministry, which is why there is a delay in getting visas for players of Pakistani origin for the T20 World Cup.
