India and Bangladesh are face to face after Mustafizur Rahman’s expulsion from IPL. Bangladesh had refused to send its team to India for the T20 World Cup 2026. Bangladesh wanted its matches to be held in Sri Lanka. Now the news is that the International Cricket Council (ICC) has convinced Bangladesh to reconsider the demand of changing the venue of the World Cup matches.
According to The Telegraph, several meetings were held between BCCI and BCB officials, which were mediated by the International Cricket Council (ICC). Bangladesh Cricket Board has asked for some time to reconsider its demand of changing the venue, but it has also made it clear that BCB will take a final decision only after consulting the government of its country.
ICC is ready to make some changes in the schedule of Bangladesh in T20 World Cup 2026. Besides, ICC has also assured complete security to Bangladeshi players in India. According to the report, an ICC official said that the International Cricket Council will try to convince the Bangladesh team to play in India. The official also said that this is not just a matter of the two teams, but also of the fans, spectators, broadcasters and media.
ICC can implement Plan B, but it would like BCCI and BCB to resolve this issue by talking to each other. This report of The Telegraph also revealed that BCB would hardly want to have any enmity with the world’s richest cricket board i.e. BCCI. Because this may prove to be a financial loss deal for Bangladesh Cricket Board in future.
A source said that all the boards understand that the match with India can fill their coffers. Therefore, it would be better for everyone to maintain good relations with BCCI.
According to the current schedule, Bangladesh’s matches in T20 World Cup 2026 are to be played in Mumbai and Kolkata. If the schedule is changed and Bangladesh’s matches are shifted to Sri Lanka, it could be a logistical nightmare for the tournament organizers and broadcasters.
