Bangladesh: General elections are to be held in Bangladesh on 12 February. Meanwhile, Adani Group has sent a letter to pay the electricity dues. Along with paying the outstanding bills to Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB), Adani Group has also warned that if the outstanding payment is not made, the electricity supply may be in danger.
What things were mentioned in the letter?
According to the report of Bangladesh’s famous newspaper Prathom Alo, on January 29, Adani Power Limited Vice President Avinash Anurag had sent a letter to the PDB Chairman regarding payment of the outstanding payment.
It was said that to ensure the continued regular operation of the power plant, it is necessary to immediately pay $ 112.7 million (about Rs 1,000 crore). This total amount also includes the outstanding amount of $53.2 million till June last year. Apart from this, arrears of $59.6 million for power supply in October are also included. Despite repeated requests for this amount, Bangladesh Electricity Board has still failed to pay it.
It was a matter of stopping the electricity supply.
In a letter to the Bangladesh Electricity Department, Adani Group has warned that due to the increasing dues, there is a lot of pressure on power production, hence if the dues are not paid, then power supply, maintenance, and partners associated with the power plant may have to face difficulties.
Let us tell you that Bangladesh buys electricity on a large scale from Adani Power’s plant in Godda, Jharkhand. It is the result of the dues of Bangladesh Power Development Board that last year only 8.2 percent electricity was supplied out of the total supply of 1600 MW, which was 8.63 billion units. There is bitterness between Adani Group and Bangladesh Electricity Department over the delay in payment, but the supply is still continuing.

Last year, Adani Group had sent a similar letter demanding payment of the dues, in which PDB was given a deadline of November 10. It was clearly stated in the letter that if the money is not received, the electricity supply will be stopped from November 11. As a result, Bangladesh paid Adani $100 million that month, but the outstanding amount started increasing again from December.
