Despite winning the last match in the Super-8 of T20 World Cup 2026, Pakistan could not make it to the semi-finals. Pakistan had to be eliminated due to poor net run rate. After the match, Pakistan captain Salman Aga took part in the press conference, where many questions were asked. Meanwhile, a journalist asked such a question, which you too will be surprised to hear.
In fact, the journalist, while talking candidly, asked Salman whether he himself would step down from the captaincy in T20 or will the cricket board remove him?
Salman Aga replied
Hearing the question, a smile appeared on Salman’s face. Then he replied, “Right now I think that if any decision is taken, it will be emotional. We will go back, take some time for 2-4 days, and then decide.”

Salman Aga was called ‘dummy’ captain
A journalist accused Salman Aga of being a ‘dummy’ i.e. just a pretend captain. The Pak captain was asked whether Salman Aga was being presented as a dummy captain? Does Mike Hesson (head coach) dominate the team too much? This question was especially regarding the role of Babar Azam.
Answering this question, Salman further said, “If I do not answer this, will you consider it disrespect? A team is not made by the decision of one person. Everyone’s decisions have consequences. Babar had a different role in this World Cup.”
Pakistan’s performance in the tournament
In the group stage, Pakistan won three out of four matches and made it to the Super-8. The only defeat for the Pak team was against India. Then the first match in Super-8, which was to be against New Zealand, got washed away due to rain. After this, they faced defeat in the second match against England by 2 wickets. Then in the final match against Sri Lanka, they won by 5 runs, but still could not make it to the semi-finals.
