US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth targeted Beijing on Saturday (November 1) over the increase in destabilizing actions in the South China Sea. During this, he expressed his commitment to support the countries of South Asia by providing them technology, so that they can jointly respond to Chinese threats.
Pete Hegseth held talks with ministers from allies Australia, Japan and the Philippines in Kuala Lumpur. Hegseth proposed the creation of a shared maritime domain awareness to the defense ministers of ASEAN countries. During this he said that China has threatened his regional sovereignty. He said that you see this as the threats posed by China’s aggression in the South China Sea and elsewhere, which we all face.
‘We will have to work together to give a befitting reply to China’
During this, the US Defense Secretary said that we need to develop our capabilities together to give a befitting reply to China. To monitor the sea, we will develop such equipment which will be capable of taking immediate action. Hegseth said that no one can innovate like the United States, so we are eager to pass that technology on to our allies and partners.
Hegseth’s comments came a day after exercises conducted by the armed forces of Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines and the US in the South China Sea. Regarding this patrolling, the Chinese military spokesperson said that it has caused serious damage to peace and stability.
China claims the entire South China Sea
Let us tell you that Beijing claims its sovereignty over almost the entire South China Sea through a line on its map, which overlaps parts of the exclusive economic zones of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Vietnam. China has deployed a fleet of coast guard ships hundreds of kilometers away from its mainland, which repeatedly collides with Philippines ships. Apart from this, China is also accused of disrupting the energy activities of Malaysia and Vietnam.
