US President Donald Trump’s statement on nuclear testing has created a stir across the world. Russia said on Friday (7 November 2025) that America should give clarification on Donald Trump’s statement on nuclear test. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said that if America takes any step in this direction, then reactions will start coming from Russia as well as the whole world.
There was a stir after Trump’s statement on nuclear testing
US President Donald Trump was posting on Truth Social last week that he has ordered immediate testing of nuclear weapons. Trump wrote, ‘The United States has more nuclear weapons than any other country. All this was possible only during my first term. Russia is in second place and China is a distant third, but will catch up in the next five years. Because of the testing programs of other countries, I have directed the War Department to begin testing our nuclear weapons on a similar basis. This process will start immediately.
Putin’s warning to America
Regarding this, Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday (5 November 2025) had ordered his top officials to prepare concrete proposals on possible nuclear weapons tests. Putin said that Russia has so far strictly complied with all its obligations under the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT). However, he also gave a clear warning that if America or any other nuclear power conducts tests in violation of this treaty, then Russia will also follow the same path.
Russia and America have the most nuclear weapons
Moscow has not conducted any nuclear tests since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. Russia and America have the world’s largest stockpiles of nuclear weapons. Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov told President Vladimir Putin that Moscow should respond to Washington’s steps to ensure Russia’s security. He said that it is appropriate to start preparations for nuclear tests immediately.
