Tata Motors’ new Sierra has become one of the most talked about cars of this year. The company has made many major changes in it and along with it has also given new powertrain technology. The most attention-grabbing thing is that Sierra’s new 1.5 Hyperion engine is giving a fuel efficiency of about 29.9 kmpl. This figure is quite shocking for an SUV of such large size and power, but the company has achieved this mileage not on normal roads but in special testing conditions. Let us know in detail.
The figure of 29.9 kmpl was found in 12 hours track test.
- This fuel efficiency of Sierra was achieved at the Natrax test track in Indore. This test was run continuously for 12 hours, from 7 am to 7 pm. A short break was taken in between only to change the driver. In testing conditions like this, there is no traffic and the vehicle is driven at a constant speed, resulting in much better mileage. In this test, Sierra also achieved a top speed of 222 kmph, while the speed limit of the upcoming model for the customers will be kept at 190 kmph.
What effect will mileage have in the real world?
- It will be difficult to replicate the mileage obtained in the test on a normal road, because in the real world, things like traffic, braking, road conditions, AC and driving style change the mileage a lot. Nevertheless, this figure definitely shows that Tata’s new technology has made fuel efficiency much better than before.
Sierra Engines and Technology
- Tata Sierra comes with three engine options. The first is the new 1.5 liter Hyperion T-GDi engine, which produces 160 PS power and 255 Nm torque and is mated to a 6-speed torque converter gearbox. The second engine is a 1.5 liter Revotron engine with 106 PS, which comes with 7-speed DCA automatic. Mileage may vary from driver to driver and city. Soon Tata Motors will also release the official fuel efficiency of Sierra.
