Bank Holiday Today: Today 27th December is the birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh. On this occasion, schools, colleges and offices are closed as a public holiday in many states. It is also the fourth Saturday of the month, so will banks also be closed today? An attempt will be made to clear your confusion through this news. According to the RBI holiday list, all banks in cities like Kohima are closed on Saturday due to the celebration of Christmas festival. However, 27th December is also the fourth Saturday of the month, hence all banks will remain closed across the country.
From September 2015, RBI announced bank closure on the second and fourth Saturday of the month. That means bank employees will have to work two Saturdays of the month and two Saturdays will be their holiday. As per the guidelines, all scheduled and non-scheduled banks – government, private, foreign, co-operative, regional rural and local area banks – will observe public holidays on the second and fourth Saturdays from September 01, 2015 and will work full day on all other Saturdays.
Payment system will not work
In the same guideline of RBI, it was also said that payment systems will not work on second and fourth Saturdays. Payment systems generally include Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS), National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT), check clearing operated by different bankers clearing houses in the country, including Grid Based Check Truncation System (CTS) and ECS Suite (Electronic Clearing Service), Regional Electronic Clearing Service (RECS) and National Electronic Clearing Service (NECS).

Today, the birth anniversary of the tenth and last Guru of the Sikhs, Guru Gobind Singh, is being celebrated across the country. He founded the Khalsa Panth and raised his voice against injustice. On this day, people of the Sikh community remember his fearlessness, equality and his teachings of walking on the path of truth. Due to this, today there is a public holiday in states like Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand and Bihar. During this period all schools, colleges and government offices will remain closed.
