Will the Russia-Ukraine war stop? Putin’s diplomat gave a big update, Moscow is ready for talks

Amidst the Ukraine war, Russia has once again signaled a peace initiative. Russia’s interim charge d’affaires in Türkiye, Alexey Ivanov, said that Moscow is ready for peace talks with Ukraine at any time. He clearly said that if Kiev shows political will, talks can start immediately. The possibility of making Istanbul the venue for talks again is also being discussed.

Moscow has said that it is ready for talks with Ukraine at any time to advance the peace process. This information was given by Russian news agency TASS quoting Alexey Ivanov, Russia’s interim in-charge in Türkiye.

Talks can be resumed in Istanbul
Ivanov told media in Türkiye that Russia is ready to resume peace talks with Ukraine in Istanbul. He reminded that earlier talks between the two countries had taken place in Istanbul on May 16, June 2 and July 23, but their outcome was not positive.

‘We are always open to dialogue’ – Alexey Ivanov
The Russian diplomat said, we have repeatedly reiterated that Russia is ready to continue direct negotiations with the Ukrainian side and their delegation. Our Turkish partners have also said that the Istanbul platform is open for us, the doors are always open here. He further said that if Kiev shows political will, Russia will be ready for talks at any time.

Proposals put forward in previous meetings
Ivanov said that during the last round of talks, Russia had put forward many concrete proposals and initiatives, which included the establishment of three online working groups and suggestions to make diplomatic dialogue permanent.

However, he said that the Ukrainian side has not yet given any positive response to these initiatives. It is noteworthy that there has been no face-to-face talks between the two countries since July.

Russia’s second big peace signal
This is the second major peace gesture from Russia in recent times. Earlier on October 24, Russia’s special envoy and close aide of President Vladimir Putin, Kirill Dmitriev, had said in an interview to CNN that Russia, Ukraine and America are now very close to a diplomatic solution. Dmitriev recently went to America for a meeting with American officials. He said that Russia not only wants a ceasefire, but also wants a permanent and final solution to this war. Ceasefires are often short-lived.
