The heads of state of both the countries are going to meet for the first time amid the ongoing tariff war between China and America. China has confirmed that President Xi Jinping will meet US President Donald Trump in South Korea on Thursday (29 October 2025). With this meeting, traders and investors in the Pacific region hope that the trade tensions that have been going on for months will reduce. The two will meet in Korea on the sidelines of the Asia Pacific Economic Corporation (APEC) Summit.
Trump-Jinping will meet in Busan, South Korea
China Foreign Ministry said that there will be talks between the two heads of state on strategic and many important issues. However, China did not directly mention the trade agreement on which the leaders of the world’s two largest economies have agreed to meet in Busan, South Korea. The meeting between Trump and Xi Jinping is taking place at a time when America has threatened to impose 100 percent tariff on Chinese goods from November 1, 2025.
Consensus has been reached on the framework of the trade deal.
US Finance Minister Scott Besant had also indicated on Monday (27 October 2025) that Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping could meet in South Korea. He had claimed that an agreement has been reached between the two countries regarding the framework of a possible trade agreement. He had said that this framework can help China avoid 100 percent tariff.
Why is Trump angry at China?
China further tightened controls on the export of rare earth minerals needed to manufacture high-tech products, after which Trump announced 100 percent tariff on Beijing. For the past few months, China has stopped purchasing soybean from America, due to which American farmers are facing a crisis. China has been the largest buyer of American soybeans. Trump had said that China’s restrictions on rare earth, soybean and other things are like a direct economic attack on America.
