The Supreme Court will give its verdict on Monday (January 5, 2026) on the bail plea of ​​7 accused in the 2020 Delhi riots, including Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam. These accused have demanded bail citing that they have been in jail for 5 years. Delhi Police has opposed their demand saying that the riots in Delhi were part of a well-planned conspiracy. Their plan was to spread the scope of violence to the entire country.

Delhi High Court order challenged in Supreme Court

The Supreme Court bench of Justice Arvind Kumar and Justice NV Anjaria will give its verdict in this matter on Monday (January 5, 2026). In this case, a case has been registered against the accused Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam, Gulfisha Fatima, Meeran Haider, Shifa Ur Rehman, Mohammad Salim Khan and Shadab Ahmed under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

The petitioner has challenged in the Supreme Court the order given by the Delhi High Court on September 2, 2025, in which the court had refused to grant him bail in a case related to a major conspiracy in the February 2020 violence.
