Be it bike or car. Recently the state government has taken a new step regarding environment and cleanliness and has decided to implement green cess. This tax will be effective from December 2025.
It is estimated that this will generate additional revenue of Rs 100-150 crore every year. The purpose of this tax is to reduce air pollution in the state, ensure environmental protection and promote cleanliness in public places. The tax rate varies according to the type of vehicle. Will bikers also have to pay green cess?
Uttarakhand government has implemented green cess for vehicles coming from outside the state. However, the Uttarakhand government has made it clear that some vehicles have been completely exempted from green tax. This also includes two-wheelers i.e. bikes. If you go to Uttarakhand by bike then you will not need to pay this tax.

Apart from this, electric and CNG vehicles, vehicles registered in the state and vehicles engaged in emergency services like ambulances and fire engines are also included in the exemption. If a vehicle re-enters the state within 24 hours, it will not have to pay tax again. This means that small passengers, local people and tourists coming by bike will not be affected by this tax.
How to pay green cess?
Talking about how much money will have to be paid in green cess, the tax on small vehicles has been fixed at Rs 80, buses at Rs 140, goods vehicles at Rs 250 and trucks at Rs 120 to Rs 700 depending on their weight. ANPR cameras have now been installed on the state borders in Uttarakhand for tax collection. Which will record the number of every entering vehicle. Earlier 16 cameras were working.

Now their number has been increased to 37 so that data recording and monitoring becomes better. This data will be sent to a private vendor company. Which will identify vehicles from outside states and their NPCI wallet number. After this, green tax will be automatically deducted and deposited directly into the account of the transport department. This means that the vehicle owner will not need to stand at any counter or make manual payment. The entire process will be digital.
