The winter session of both the houses of Uttar Pradesh Legislature (Assembly and Legislative Council) will start from 19 December 2025. Governor Anandiben Patel has approved this on Friday (December 12). Along with this, Principal Secretary of Legislative Assembly Pradeep Kumar Dubey and Principal Secretary of Legislative Council Dr. Rajesh Singh have issued the notification.
The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet had recently decided to convene the Legislative Session from December 19, which was approved by the Governor. According to the notification, the Governor has summoned both the houses for the third session of the year 2025 at 11 am on December 19. The detailed schedule of the session has not been released yet, but according to sources, this session will run till December 24, which will include a total of six calendar days. However, December 21st will be a holiday as it will be Sunday, leaving only four or five effective working days. In this short but important session, Yogi Adityanath government is preparing to present the first supplementary budget for the financial year 2025-26.
Opposition is planning a strategy to corner the government regarding SIR
There is also a possibility of uproar in the House during the winter session of the UP Legislature. Because the opposition parties, especially the Samajwadi Party and the Congress, are making a strategy to corner the government with the Special Intensive Voter Revision Campaign (SIR). Apart from this, heated debates are also expected on inflation, unemployment, farmer issues, law and order and other public concerns. The opposition believes that short sessions provide less opportunity for in-depth discussion and many issues remain unresolved. Tributes will be paid to the deceased members in the proceedings of the House on the first day. This session is considered important for the development and legislative work of the state.
