How does a microwave work?

There is a special device inside the oven which is called magnetron. This magnetron converts electricity into microwave energy and these waves keep rotating around inside the oven.
These microwaves directly affect the molecules of food, especially water, fat and sugar. When microwaves collide with these molecules, they start moving rapidly and this motion creates friction. Due to this friction, heat is generated, which heats the food from inside to outside.
Why is there no need for a heater?
In an ordinary oven or gas stove, heat is provided from outside, due to which the food gets heated slowly. But in the microwave, heat does not come from outside, rather the food itself produces heat. This is why the microwave does not require any heating rod or flame.
Additionally, heat spreads evenly in a microwave oven, so food gets cooked or heated quickly and evenly. This is the reason why leftover food becomes fresh in just a few seconds in the microwave.
Why does food dry out in the microwave?
It has been seen many times that food gets heated in the microwave but becomes a little dry. This happens because microwaves have the greatest effect on water molecules. When food remains in the microwave for a long time, the water inside it evaporates, causing it to feel dry.
To avoid this, it is useful to cover the food with a lid or sprinkle some water while heating it. This maintains moisture and makes the food taste more delicious.
How safe is this technology?
Microwave oven is a completely safe technology. The microwaves used in this are confined only inside the oven and do not come out. Also, the metal mesh in the oven door prevents these waves from going out.
