It was impossible to attach the ear directly to the head through normal surgery, because the head and blood vessels were severely injured. In such a situation, the doctors immediately decided to find a new way. Due to this, doctors attached the woman’s ear to her leg.
How did this unique surgery happen?
The surgeons adopted a unique and complex technique. They temporarily grafted the ear onto the upper part of the woman’s leg. The veins and arteries of the leg were completely useful for the ears and the thickness of the skin here was also in accordance with the skin of the head. This surgery was extremely challenging because the ear veins were only 0.2 to 0.3 mm thin. This process took about 10 hours.
Five days after the surgery, the color of the woman’s ears started turning purple-black. This meant that there was a problem with blood flow. To save her, the doctors did manual bloodletting about 500 times in five days, meanwhile the woman’s scalp was repaired by grafting skin from her stomach.
Ear reattached after months
About five months later, when the position of the woman’s head and face had stabilized and the swelling had gone down, doctors reattached the ear to its original position in a six-hour long and complex surgery in October. The woman, whose name has been given as Sun, has now been discharged from the hospital. His face has become normal to a great extent.
