WTC 2025-27 Points Table: The second Test played between India and South Africa in Guwahati has changed the picture of the race for the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27. The Indian team has suffered a crushing defeat by 408 runs. With this, India not only lost the series 0-2, but also dropped one place to fifth place in the WTC points table.
Why did India’s situation deteriorate?
India has played 9 matches so far in this WTC cycle. Won 4, drew 4 and lost 1, but this two-match defeat against South Africa proved to be very heavy. Team India has a total of 52 points and their point percentage has come down to 49.52%. This decline has pushed India even lower than Pakistan.
This 0-2 series defeat is India’s first Test series defeat in the ongoing WTC. Continuous failure in batting and failure of the bowlers have increased the problems of the team.
South Africa made a strong hold
On the other hand, South Africa has strengthened its position in this cycle by winning both the Tests brilliantly. South Africa now has 36 points in 4 matches and they remain in second place. The team has lost only one match so far, which was against Pakistan.
WTC 2025-27 Points Table

4. Pakistan – 2 matches, 1 win (PCT: 50%)
5. India – 9 matches, 4 wins (PCT: 49.52%)

India’s path is now difficult
Going down in the table is a big blow for India because the team will not play any Test series till the second half of 2026. This means that India will not get any chance to climb up in the points table for the next one and a half years.
By the time the team takes the field next time, many teams will have strengthened their positions. In such a situation, to maintain the hopes of reaching the finals, India will have to show an almost perfect game in the remaining matches.
