Kannada cinema superstar Yash’s upcoming film ‘Toxic’ has been in the headlines since its teaser release. While on one hand Yash’s fans are very excited about this film, on the other hand the teaser of the film now seems to be embroiled in serious controversies.

Recently, a legal complaint has been filed against the teaser of the film, in which serious allegations have been made against the teaser like spreading obscenity, hurting social values and having a negative impact on minors. After this complaint, the problems of the film and its makers seem to be increasing.

Teaser caught in controversy

Actually, on January 9, on the occasion of his birthday, Yash had released the teaser of the film ‘Toxic’ as a gift to his fans. As soon as the teaser was released, it went viral on social media and within a few hours it was viewed millions of times. However, controversy started over a bold and intimate scene shown in the teaser. Actress Sasha Gray is seen in this scene, about which many organizations and social workers have raised objections.

Complaint lodged with CBFC

Now in this matter, social activist Dinesh Kallahalli of Kanakapura taluk (Ramanagar district) has filed a formal legal complaint with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) against the teaser of the film ‘Toxic’. This complaint has been addressed directly to CBFC Chairman Prasoon Joshi. The complainant has alleged that the teaser of the film contains scenes which are extremely obscene, sexually provocative and morally objectionable.

The complaint states that the teaser of ‘Toxic’ is being circulated openly on social media platforms without any age limit or warning. Due to this, children, teenagers and youth are easily accessing this content, which can be harmful for their mental and moral development. The complainant says that such content is against the cultural and moral values of the Indian society and showing it publicly is legally wrong.

The complainant has said that even though freedom of expression is a fundamental right, this right is not unlimited. Appropriate restrictions can be imposed on it in the interest of public decency, morality and social order. Citing several decisions of the Supreme Court, it has been said that obscene and sexually explicit content cannot be protected under freedom of expression.

Apart from this, the Cinematograph Act, 1952, CBFC rules and certification guidelines have also been mentioned in the complaint. The complainant says that not only the film, but its teaser and promotional material also come under the purview of CBFC rules. In such a situation, showing such scenes in the teaser is a direct violation of the rules. If CBFC does not take timely action in this matter, it will be considered as administrative negligence.

The complainant has demanded from CBFC that the teaser of the film ‘Toxic’ should be immediately reviewed and instructions should be given to remove all the objectionable and obscene scenes included in it. Along with this, a demand has also been made to impose a temporary ban on the public display and online circulation of the teaser. Not only this, in the complaint an appeal has also been made to initiate legal action against the film’s director, producer and other responsible people.

Karnataka State Women’s Commission has sought a report from CBFC in this matter in the teaser. The Commission has written a formal letter in this matter and wants to know whether the content shown in the teaser has been examined as per the rules or not and what action has been taken on it so far. This step has been taken after the complaint lodged by Karnataka State Secretary of Aam Aadmi Party, Usha Mohan.

Taking the entire matter seriously, the Women’s Commission has asked the CBFC to investigate the teaser as per the rules and submit a detailed report of the action taken in this regard to the Commission. The Commission has also made it clear that further action will be considered on the basis of the report.

Talking about the film, ‘Toxic’ is one of the most awaited films of Yash. This film is going to be released in theaters on 19 April 2026. Big actresses like Kiara Advani, Nayanthara and Huma Qureshi will be seen along with Yash in the film.
