Dementia Research Brain Donation: Andre Yarham, who lives in Dereham, Norfolk, England, was just 22 years old when his mother Samantha Fairbairn noticed worrying changes in his behaviour. They started feeling that their son has started forgetting small things and sometimes his behavior becomes abnormal according to his age. For this reason, she took him to the doctor and was surprised to hear what came out of the doctor’s mouth, let us tell you about which disease the doctor told?
What disease did the doctor tell you about?
After examination, doctors confirmed that Andre was suffering from frontotemporal dementia. This is a rare type of dementia, which is caused by a specific protein mutation in the brain. In this disease, along with memory, a person’s behaviour, thinking, understanding and speaking ability is also rapidly affected. Brain scans done after the disease was diagnosed showed signs of abnormal shrinking of the brain. After this he was referred to Cambridge, where dementia was confirmed.
Died at the age of 24
Andre Yarmon died of a painful illness at the age of 24. This disease usually occurs in elderly people. What was found during the MRI was quite surprising. In fact, it was revealed that his brain had become like that of a 70 year old person. Speaking to BBC, Andre’s mother said that it was extremely painful to know that her son had developed dementia at such a young age. He told that this disease does not respect age and his son was probably one of the youngest patients.
care difficult
As the disease progressed, it became difficult for the family to take care of him. In September, Andre had to be shifted to a care home and within a few weeks he was in a wheelchair. About a month before his death, he had lost the ability to speak and was only able to make sounds. However, according to his mother, Andre’s smile, humor and personality persisted until the final stages of his illness, when he died on December 27. Before he died, Andre decided to donate his brain for research, so that better treatment and understanding of this disease could be developed in the future. His mother says that if her son’s decision can give even one family a chance to spend a few more years with their loved one, then it would be worthwhile.
