Nowadays, our lives have become so busy and noisy that it has become very difficult to concentrate on one place. There are constantly things happening around us that distract us from our focus. Phone notifications, repeated tones of group chats, planning for the evening meal at home, calls on the go and many other small problems. In such a situation, it is not surprising that maintaining focus or completely concentrating on any work has become a challenge, but there is no need to worry, because experts say that by adopting the right method and changing some habits, we can improve our focus and concentrate completely on the work.
1. Create a distraction free environment – First of all, it is important to make your work space suitable for focus. Some people are able to focus only in complete silence and for them a clean and organized space is necessary. At the same time, some people also work by playing background music or watching light TV. Some people also get the right headspace by keeping pictures of loved ones or an idol of God on their desk. Meaning every person’s method is different. Once you know what kind of environment you like and what distracts you, prepare your space accordingly.
2. Practice meditation – Meditation i.e. the habit of focusing is the easiest and most effective way to increase focus. Meditating for a few minutes a day calms your mind and makes it easier to focus on one place. According to New York psychotherapist Dorley Michaeli, it increases our focus ability by reducing stress and helps us come back from distractions quickly.
3. Physical activity is necessary – If the body is not active then it becomes difficult for the mind to focus. Light exercise, jogging, or doing some stretching in short breaks increases your focus. According to a report published in Translational Sports Medicine, regular exercise improves memory and ability to focus.
4. Schedule your work at the right time – Everyone’s energy and focus power is different. Some people are most focused in the morning, while others are most focused in the evening or at night, so important tasks should be done at the time when you are most alert and focused.

5. Divide the work into small parts – Dividing large projects or tasks into smaller parts helps maintain focus. It is easy to complete every part of the work according to the list and plan and your mind also remains engaged in the work.
6. Take short breaks – Working continuously for long hours makes the brain tired. Experts suggest taking a short break of 15-20 minutes after 90 minutes of work. During this time, light tea, walking or light entertainment refreshes the mind and you become focused again.
7. Adopt yoga, mantra and balance diet – Yoga, mantra chanting and proper nutrition also help in increasing focus. Yoga and Pranayam helps in focusing on breath and body, chanting mantra provides mental peace and eating right helps in maintaining energy.
8.When needed, seek doctor’s help – If you repeatedly lose focus, get angry, have negative thoughts or suddenly feel nervous, it could be due to mental or physical reasons. In such a situation, it is important to consult a senior psychiatrist or doctor. They can help through counseling and medication.
