In today’s time, people have become more conscious about their health than before. Everyone wants to remain fit and active and diseases should not come near them. In this context, people are increasingly getting attracted towards home remedies and herbal supplements. Various health products are promoted on TV, internet and social media, such as turmeric capsules, Ashwagandha tablets, green tea extract. These are sold as natural, organic and safe. Many of us think that if something is natural, then it cannot cause harm, but the reality is that not every natural thing is healthy.
Especially when they are taken in large quantities in the form of supplements or capsules, instead of providing benefits to the body, they can cause serious harm. Its biggest impact is on our liver. Liver is a very important organ of our body, which helps in purifying blood, removing toxins and digestion. But some herbal supplements can put so much burden on the liver that it gradually starts deteriorating and this affects the entire body. In such a situation, today let us tell you about such herbal or natural things, which look like home remedies, but can become a threat to the health of the liver.
1. Turmeric – We use turmeric a lot in Indian homes. In vegetables, milk, and also in home remedies, it is known to reduce inflammation and increase immunity. But now the trend of supplements like turmeric capsules and powder has increased. However, it causes problems when it is taken in excess quantity. By doing this the pressure on the liver increases. According to some research, taking excessive turmeric supplements can even cause liver damage and kidney stones. Therefore, it is okay to take turmeric in limited quantities in your diet, but its supplements should not be taken without doctor’s advice.
2. Ashwagandha – Ashwagandha is considered a very powerful medicine in Indian Ayurveda. It helps in reducing stress, improving sleep and increasing body energy. But nowadays its tablets and powder are being sold as supplements and people have started taking them regularly without doctor’s advice. If its quantity is not correct or it is adulterated, it can cause problems like liver inflammation and hepatotoxicity. If you already have any liver disease, then taking Ashwagandha is not at all right.
3. Green Tea Extract – Drinking green tea is good for health, but nowadays people have started taking green tea extract capsules to lose weight and reduce fat. One element present in these is catechins. When it reaches the body in large quantities, it can damage the liver. In some cases, people have even suffered liver failure.
4. Black Cohosh – Black cohosh is a herbal herb, which is especially taken to reduce the symptoms of menopause in women. But this is a herb which, if taken without medical advice, can cause serious diseases like liver swelling, jaundice or even hepatitis. Women who already have any liver problem should stay away from this supplement.
5. Red Yeast Rice – Red yeast rice is commonly used to reduce cholesterol. An element is found in it named Monacolin K – which affects the liver. The amount of this element is different in every red yeast rice product, so it is difficult to say when and how much damage will occur. In some cases, this causes liver enzymes to increase, which can later lead to liver damage.
