He alleged that the interim government led by Yunus has completely failed to handle the situation.
Concern over India-Bangladesh relations
Sheikh Hasina raised serious questions on the current government regarding India-Bangladesh relations. In an e-mail interview with ANI, he said that the interim administration is continuously making harsh and hostile statements against India. They allege that the Yunus government has not been able to ensure the security of religious minorities and fundamentalist forces are being allowed to interfere in important matters like foreign policy. In this background, he also mentioned the recent murder of a Hindu youth, which has further increased the tension between the two countries.
Called India a reliable friend
Sheikh Hasina clarified that India has been Bangladesh’s most stable and reliable partner for decades. According to him, the relations between the two countries are stronger than any temporary political arrangement. He expressed hope that when the rule of law is again established in Bangladesh, both the countries will return to the old path of trust and cooperation, which was strengthened over the years by the Awami League government.
Called the decision against him a political conspiracy
Reacting to the recent verdict given against her, Sheikh Hasina said that it has nothing to do with justice. According to him, this is an attempt to eliminate him and his party politically. He alleged that he was neither given a chance to present his case nor was he allowed to choose a lawyer of his choice. He said that the tribunal is being used to target the Awami League.
Sharp warning regarding elections
Sheikh Hasina took a very strict stance on the upcoming elections. He said that any election conducted without Awami League cannot be free and fair. He claims that the current leadership is ruling without the mandate of the people and now there are preparations to ban the party to which the people have handed over power several times. He warned that if people do not get the opportunity to vote for the party of their choice, a large number of voters will abstain, raising questions about the legitimacy of any new government.
Response to extradition demands
Regarding the demands for extradition, Sheikh Hasina said that such voices are being raised from a desperate and directionless government. Expressing his gratitude to India, he said that he is grateful for the respect and security with which he has been given shelter here. He also said that the support of various political parties of India encourages him.
