Yuzvendra Chahal Birthday: Kohli’s favorite bowler whose career has a break under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy

Harbhajan Singh was away from international cricket and R Ashwin was slowly climbing the ladder of success as the next big spinner of India. Ravindra Jadeja was also in the role of another permanent spinner with Ashwin. Between these two, another right -handed spinner made his place in the team fast on the strength of his miraculous bowling in ODIs and T20s. The name of this bowler was Yuzvendra Chahal.

Born in Haryana on 23 July 1990, Yuzvendra Chahal made his debut for the Indian team in ODI and T20 in 2016. Chahal impressed with his bowling in ODIs and T20s. This was the reason that captain Virat Kohli gave Chahal a lot of opportunity in both the formats and he also got success. But after Virat Kohli’s captaincy and Rohit Sharma became captain, there was a continuous opportunities for Chahal. Most of the time he was not in the team and when he was in the team, he is not given a chance in playing XI.

Yajuvendra Chahal was part of the Indian team in T20 World Cup 2022 and T20 World Cup 2024, but, he did not get to play a single match. He was not part of the Asia Cup 2023 and the ODI World Cup 2023 team. He was not given a chance even in the Champions Trophy 2025. On all these occasions, captain Rohit Sharma was the only one. Whether it was domestic cricket or IPL Chahal, the performance was excellent during this period.

Chahal, who is going to be 35 years old, has not been debuted in Tests yet. He has taken 121 wickets in 72 ODIs and 96 in 80 T20s. He was the highest wicket -taker in international T20 for India for a long time. Arshdeep Singh has now become the bowlers taking the most wickets (99) from India in T20 international cricket due to not getting regular opportunity for almost 4 years. Chahal is now second. If they had got enough opportunities, the number of T20 wickets would have been above 150. Chahal, who has last played for India in August 2023, has not retired yet, but his discussion of returning to the team is now negligible.

Chahal has received continuous opportunities in the IPL and has proved his superiority in this most prestigious league in the world. He has taken 221 wickets in 174 matches between 2013 and 2025 and is the most successful bowler in the history of the league. In international cricket, there should not be a return to Chahal, but in the IPL, his fire is going to remain for a long time.
