The President of Ukraine on Saturday (22 November) rejected US President Donald Trump’s peace proposal, saying ‘We cannot betray our country’. In such a situation, Trump has also bluntly said that it is not possible to continuously help Ukraine. To quickly end the Ukraine war, Trump had secretly prepared a draft with Russia.
Trump had sent the draft of this peace agreement to Zelensky. Although no disclosure was made regarding the terms of the draft, it is believed that according to the draft, Ukraine was asked to forever give up its rights over Donetsk and Luhansk, which were lost to Russia. In Trump’s peace plan, Ukraine was also asked to include in its constitution the clause of never taking NATO membership.

Earlier on Friday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that the country was facing one of the most challenging moments in its history, as it considered the implications of the US proposal, Al Jazeera reported. Addressing a rally outside his office in Kiev, Zelensky stressed the need for national unity and reiterated that he would never betray the Ukrainian people.
Zelensky said, “This is one of the most difficult moments in our history. Ukraine now faces a very difficult choice: either lose its dignity or risk losing a key ally.” He added, “I will fight around the clock to ensure that at least two points of the plan are not ignored. First, the dignity of Ukrainians and second, our freedom.”
