Zero tariffs on American nuts, liquor, spirits, fruits, vegetables? US claims on trade deal shocking

Many questions are being raised regarding the India-America trade deal, answers to which are yet to be received. Nothing has been officially said by the government, while Trump has made many big claims in the post on Truth Social.

US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer posted on Twitter on Tuesday that India will reduce tariffs on American agricultural products to 0. President Trump’s historic agreement with India will provide American farmers and producers access to the Indian market. He said in an interview that this agreement will allow India to maintain protection on imports of some agricultural products.

What did Piyush Goyal say
India’s Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal spoke to the media in just a 20-minute speech, in which he praised the Modi-Trump friendship and promised to benefit all 140 crore (1.4 billion) Indians. He said that the agreement will be signed soon after finalizing it. News agency ANI quoted sources as saying that a joint statement can be issued within this week.

Statement by US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer
Jamieson Greer said in an interview to CNBC that tariffs on many things in India like dry fruits, alcohol, spirits, fruits, vegetables etc. are going to be zero. However, he did not mention rice, soybean, sugar or dairy products, items which India has also kept out of its recent trade agreement with the EU.

what did trump say
Regarding the India-US trade deal, Trump has said that the Indian Prime Minister is one of my best friends, who has agreed to buy 500 billion dollars of American goods, reduce the tariff on America to zero and stop the purchase of crude oil from Russia, because the Americans believe that Delhi’s purchase was indirectly funding the Ukraine war.

In his post after Trump’s post, Prime Minister Modi did not give any information regarding the details of the agreement except the 18 percent tariff. India currently imports less than $50 billion from the US annually, so increasing it to $500 billion will be challenging. These questions were raised by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor.
