Jethra’s co-founder and CEO Nitin Kamath has given a serious warning about the Indian stock market. He has said that if there is a sharp decline in the market, then the investors may be distance from the stock market for years. Just like the 2008 global financial crisis.

While sharing the data in a post on ‘X’, Nitin Kamath, co-founder and CEO of Jidhi, said that between 2008 and 2014, the net flow in equity oriented mutual funds had reduced significantly. At that time, investors had opted out of the market after heavy losses.

However, Kamath also told that in the last five years, retail investors have kept the Indian stock market. Especially in the later time after Covid, when the market had uncertainty and external pressure, the common investors continued to invest at every decline and supported the market.
He said that it is quite surprising that retail investors continued to remain net buyers. But he also raised the question whether this trend will continue even further or any major decline will push people into the shadow of fear again.
Warning is being considered important
This warning of Kamath is also considered important because in today’s time the Indian stock market is largely dependent on retail investors. If for some reason their trust is shaken, then it can directly affect the market move. In such a situation, it will be interesting to see whether the common investors repeat the habit of ‘Buy The Dip’ when the next big fall occurs or take a long break like 2008.
