Zomato hikes platform fees: Just before the festive season, food delivery and Quick Commerce Company Arternal (Parent Company of Zomato and Blinkit) has given the customers a shock. The company has increased the platform fees by 20% on Tuesday, 2 September 2025. Now customers will have to pay a platform charge, not Rs 10, not Rs 10 as before.

The thing to note is that the company has made this change within less than a year. It is believed that this step has been taken keeping in mind the rising operational cost and increasing demand in the festive season.

What is the effect on customers?

After this decision to increase the platform fees from the company, now an additional Rs 2 will have to be paid on every order, that is, a total of Rs 12. Those who order several times a month will increase the expenditure for them. For example, if a customer orders 20 times a month, the first platform charge used to be Rs 200, now it will be Rs 240.

The story of Jomato’s platform fee has been continuously changing in the last two years. The company’s CEO Dipendra Goyal first implemented it in 2023, when the objective was to improve the profit by increasing the margin. Initially this fee was kept at Rs 2 per order.

After this the company gradually started increasing it:

It was reduced to Rs 3 in 2023 itself. The fees were increased to Rs 4 on 1 January 2024. On 31 December 2023, it was temporarily increased to Rs 9 (looking at festive and annual demand). After this, the company made it permanently Rs 10 and described it as “festive season platform fees”. And now, on 2 September 2025, the company has increased it to Rs 12 further. That is, the fee that was Rs 2 in just two years, has now increased 6 times to Rs 12.
