USA News: There was a stir near America’s White House on Saturday (May 23) evening (US time), when a person approached the security post and started firing at the security personnel. According to the US Secret Service, preliminary investigation has revealed that at around 6 pm Eastern Time, the suspect approached the security checkpoint, took out a weapon from his bag and started firing at the officers stationed there. According to the report of Fox News, about 30 rounds of firing took place during this period, due to which there was chaos in the entire area.

The US Secret Service’s communications office tweeted, “Shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday, a man pulled a weapon from his backpack in the area of 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue and began firing. Secret Service police responded and shot the suspect. He was taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead. A passerby was also injured in the shooting. The President was present at the White House at the time of the incident.”

A pedestrian has also been injured in the incident. However, law enforcement officials say that it is not yet clear whether the pedestrian was hit by the suspect’s bullet or was injured by the bullet fired in retaliation. The Secret Service said that US President Donald Trump was present inside the White House at the time of the incident, but this incident had no effect on him. The agency also said that none of its officers were injured.

FBI Director Kash Patel also shared information on social media. He said officials are responding to the shooting incident and will update the public as information becomes available.

The Metropolitan Police Department also posted on its X account that the Secret Service is taking action across the area. Police appealed to people to stay away from that area.
Such incidents have happened before also
The area where firing took place on Saturday was the same area where an attack took place in November last year. Then a gunman attacked two members of the West Virginia National Guard. In that incident, US Army specialist Sarah Beckstrom was killed, while Andrew Wolf was seriously injured. Charges were framed against Rahmanullah Lakanwal in that case.

Security increased after attempted attack on Trump
This incident has happened at a time when there was an alleged attempt to attack President Donald Trump about a month ago. The case of an attempt to target Trump came to light during the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner organized at a hotel in Washington on April 25. In this case, California resident Cole Thomas Allen has been accused of attempting to assassinate Trump. He recently pleaded innocent in court and is currently in federal custody.
