A 28-year-old female doctor working in a government hospital in Satara district of Maharashtra committed suicide after being raped. Now new revelations are being made in this matter. In the sunny note written by the deceased on her hand, two policemen have been accused of rape and mental harassment for the last five months.
After this incident, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis spoke to Satara Police and directed to immediately suspend the police officers mentioned in the Sunaid note. Police said, “We have registered a case and the body has been sent for post-mortem. We are also investigating the allegations written in the suicide note found in the victim’s hand.”
Rape and mental harassment
The victim claimed in the suicide note that Sub-Inspector Gopal Badane raped and sexually assaulted her several times. In the suicide note, another officer Prashant Bankar has also been accused of mental harassment. Maharashtra Women’s Commission chief Rupali Chakankar said, “We have taken cognizance of the matter and have ordered the Satara police to take strict action against the accused.”
Pressure to change postmortem report
According to the report of news agency PTI, the relatives of the victim have alleged that there was pressure on the medical officials including the doctor to falsify the postmortem report. The victim’s cousin said, “There was a lot of police and political pressure on her for making a wrong postmortem report. We tried to complain about it. My sister should get justice. My sister had joined the service only two years ago, but there was a lot of pressure on her from the authorities to make a fake autopsy or fitness report.”
‘Seniors used to harass the victim’
The victim told her aunt how pressure was put on her in the hospital where she worked. The victim’s aunt said, “We raised her since childhood and bore the expenses of her education. She was under a lot of work pressure, hence she took this step. Just two days ago, she had told that her seniors at work were harassing her.”
Accused policeman suspended
Satara Superintendent of Police Tushar Doshi said, “A case has been registered against Gopal Badane and Prashant Bankar on charges of rape and abetment of suicide. The accused sub-inspector has been suspended and police teams are busy searching for both the accused. This matter will be thoroughly investigated and strict action will be taken.”
