10 officers of the Pakistani Army, including Captain Syed Abdur Rehman Bin Qasim, nephew of Pakistani Army Field Marshal Asim Munir, have now been included in the civil services from the army, under which Captain Syed Abdur Rehman Bin Qasim, son of Asim Munir’s brother Syed Qasim Munir and nephew of Asim Munir, will be appointed in the coming days from the Pakistani Prime Minister’s Office, Home Ministry and other officials of Pakistan abroad. Can be posted in High Commission and Embassy.
The Pakistani Army has been running such a system for years, under which the relatives of senior officers of the Army and ISI, who are in the army, are posted in major ministries of the country, including foreign high commissions and embassies after passing the Federal Public Service Commission examination.
Selection in Pakistani Administrative Services
It was informed by the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) of Pakistan that a total of 10 officers, including Captain Syed Abdur Rehman bin Qasim, nephew of Field Marshal Asim Munir, have passed the Central Superior Services Exam 2024 and these army officers have now been selected as senior officers in Pakistani Administrative Services and Police Services, which includes 7 officers of the Armed Forces, 1 officer of the Air Force and 3 officers of the Navy have been selected.
Asim Munir’s nephew Captain Syed Abdur Rehman bin Qasim has been given the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS) cadre, which is similar to the IAS cadre in India. Also, according to sources, after 3 months of training in Civil Service Academy, Captain Syed Abdur Rehman Bin Qasim will first be sent on posting in some big department of Punjab Government in a few months to understand the functioning. After that, posting will be given directly to a higher post in the Pakistani Prime Minister’s Office or the Home Ministry or the Defense Ministry.
Transfer of officer from army to administrative service
There has always been a trend in the Pakistani Army that whenever a senior general or a prominent political personality is transferred from the army to the administrative service, then after 3 to 4 years he is also sent to the foreign service, where this officer, by becoming a defense officer or an administrative officer or a trade officer in the Pakistani High Commission or Embassy located abroad, runs the entire network of Pakistani intelligence agency there.
From General Parvez Kiyani to General Bajwa, this modus operandi was used during their respective tenures. For example, Major Waqas Khan was sent to the administrative service in the year 2016 and was sent to the Embassy of Pakistan in Saudi Arabia in 2020.
For the first time, the administration was given to the general’s own nephew.
Similarly, Captain Abdul Hanan was posted in London High Commission and Lieutenant Commodore Zainul Abedin was posted in Doha, because they had the influence of big generals of Pakistani Army and they had run the entire intelligence network of ISI by being posted in High Commissions. However, this is the first time that a general’s own nephew, who is an officer posted in the army, has been given such an arrangement.
According to sources, Asim Munir wants to run the power of the entire Pakistan himself, that is why he has got his own nephew appointed from the Army to the Pakistani Administrative Service, so that by posting him in the Prime Minister’s Office or the Home Ministry, he can keep an eye on the work in these departments and get his work done as per his wish. Besides, if needed, help can also be taken in the change of power.
Asim Munir’s control over Pakistani intelligence activities
Apart from this, Pakistani intelligence agency runs intelligence networks under its High Commission and Embassy in every country. In such a situation, there is a possibility that after 3-4 years, as has already been the precedent. Following the same, appoint your nephew Asim Munir to some post in Arab countries or Pakistani Foreign Embassy in America or Pakistani High Commission in countries like Britain, India to handle Pakistani intelligence network, so that Asim Munir has complete control over Pakistani intelligence activities in that country.
Protest regarding administrative service in Pakistan
The names of other officers from the three wings of the Pakistani Army who have been posted in the Administrative Service and Police Service are Flight Lieutenant Talha Haseeb from the Air Force, Captain Yasir Hamid from the Armed Forces, Captain Hamza Tahir Shah, Captain Imtiaz Hussain, Captain Bilal Khan Wazir, Captain Zohaib Nasir, Captain Syed Muhammad Umar Shah as well as Lieutenant Muhammad from the Navy. Arslan Shakeel and Lieutenant Muhammad Ali Hammad.
Now voices of protest are being raised in Pakistan too against sending Asim Munir’s nephew from the army to administrative service and the opposition leaders are not only calling it an infiltration within Asim Munir’s government but are also presenting it as an example of nepotism.
