If you live in metro cities like Delhi or Noida, then there is great news for you. The Central Government has launched the country’s first Cooperative Taxi Service – Bharat Taxi, which will directly compete with private cab companies like Ola and Uber. This new service has been started under the Union Ministry of Cooperation and NeGD (National e-Governance Division). Its objective is to give ownership to drivers and provide a cheap, reliable and government-monitored option to passengers. Bharat Taxi’s drivers will work on a membership model, where they will only have to pay a small daily, weekly or monthly fee. With this, most of their earnings will remain with them and not with any private company. The pilot phase of Bharat Taxi will start in Delhi in November 2025 with 650 vehicles. If this initiative is successful, it will be implemented in big cities across the country by December. This model can open a new chapter of cooperative economy and fair earning in India.
