A big change can be seen in the political environment before the Bihar Assembly elections. Axis My India Chairman and Managing Director Pradeep Gupta says that even though anti-incumbency (wave of protest) is clearly visible among the public against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, its direct benefit may not be to Tejashwi Yadav but to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Pradeep Gupta said that it has been two decades since Nitish Kumar’s rule and people want change. He further said that ‘after 20 years of government, there is resentment against Nitish Kumar, there is no doubt about it. But the question is, against whom is this resentment directed? Because Nitish has run the government sometimes with BJP and sometimes with RJD-Congress. Therefore, this anti-incumbency is collective, not against any one party.
A new path may open for BJP
According to Gupta, many traditional BJP supporters have now started believing that the party should form the government on its own in Bihar, like it has done in Odisha, Assam, Karnataka and Tripura. He said, ‘People have seen the rule of both Lalu and Nitish. Now a large section is thinking why not give BJP a chance.
The new generation wants change
The head of Axis My India said that generational and demographic shift is taking place in the population of Bihar. ‘The new generation is coming with new thinking and wants change. Therefore, whether Tejashwi gets the benefit of the opposition against Nitish Kumar or not, it is also possible for BJP to get it,’ he said.
Two new factors can change the game
Gupta said that this time two new factors have emerged in the politics of Bihar. Arrival of Prashant Kishor’s new party, and Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list of the Election Commission. He said, ‘Both these factors are completely new, so it is difficult to make predictions based on past election patterns. We definitely do ground survey, but this time the picture is different.
When asked if he would like to give any preliminary estimate on Bihar elections, Gupta said, ‘It is too early to say anything right now. There are so many new changes in this election that it is difficult to compare the figures with the previous ones. We will wait till the last moment.
