A 13-year-old Class 8 student in Mumbai’s Ghatkopar area was beaten with a stick by her tuition teacher just because she had not completed her homework for the Diwali holidays. On the complaint of the student’s father, Mumbai Police has registered a case against teacher Lakshmi Khadka under the Indian Justice Code (BNS) and Juvenile Justice Act. Police said that the accused teacher will soon be called for questioning.
How did the affair begin?
According to the police, the complainant lives in Ghatkopar with his wife and three children and works in transport. Her 13-year-old daughter studies in eighth grade in the local Hindi medium school and used to go to Lakshmi Khadka’s house for tuition every day from 2 to 4 pm.
According to IANS, when the girl returned home crying on the evening of October 24, the parents made inquiries. Then he told that during Diwali vacation, the teacher had given homework, for not completing which he was beaten badly with a stick.
Injuries on student’s hands
The family members got angry due to the stick marks and red swelling on both the hands of the girl. The father immediately tried to talk to the teacher, but Khadka avoided answering. It is alleged that he warned that if the homework is not completed in the future, similar punishment will be given every day. When the parents tried to explain, the teacher started arguing and justified her behavior.
Police registered a case, investigation continues
After the incident, the student’s parents lodged a complaint at Ghatkopar police station. Taking the matter seriously, the police have registered a case under sections of the Indian Justice Code and the Juvenile Justice (Child Protection and Care) Act. The investigating officer said that the statement of the student has been recorded and the accused teacher will be interrogated soon. At present, medical examination of the girl has been done and further action is in process.
