This innings of Jemima has registered her in the pages of history. She became the first Indian player (in both men’s and women’s) to score a century during the run chase in a World Cup knockout. After the match, when she reached the post match presentation, she talked about her confidence and faith. She said, “In the end I was just remembering what the Bible says, ‘Stand quietly and God will fight for me.'”

Old controversy again in headlines

After this statement of Jemima, an old controversy has come into discussion again. This matter is of October 2024, when Mumbai’s prestigious Khar Gymkhana Club had canceled the honorary membership of Jemima. The reason was the allegations against his father Iván Rodrigues of organizing unauthorized religious meetings on the club premises.

According to reports, this matter was raised in the annual general meeting of the club. At the meeting, several members complained that Ivan Rodriguez had organized religious programs about 35 times in 18 months under the banner of Brother Manuel Ministries. As per club rules, no religious or political program is allowed on the premises.

Ivan Rodrigues gave clarification

Jemima’s father Ivon Rodriguez later issued a detailed statement on social media saying that whatever prayer meetings she held were in the full knowledge of the club officials. He wrote, “We had organized prayer meetings on a few occasions during a year from April 2023, but all this happened with the knowledge of the club. The talk of any kind of conversion in these meetings is completely false and baseless.”

He further said, “When we were asked to stop the meetings, we immediately accepted the club’s decision. We had paid all the outstanding fees. We are honest people. We follow the law completely, but it is unfortunate that false news is being spread in the media. We just wish well for everyone.”
