Sheikh Hasina’s party reached the International Court against the atrocities of Mohammad Yunus, what action will be taken before the elections in Bangladesh?

Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League has approached the International Criminal Court (ICC) demanding investigation into crimes against people associated with the party. Awami League has intensified a multi-pronged global campaign against the head of the interim government, Mohammad Yunus.

The Awami League Party has accused Yunus of unconstitutionally seizing power through violent rebellion as part of a well-planned conspiracy. London-based law firm Doughty Street Chambers represented the Awami League at the Hague-based ICC. The firm revealed last week that it had filed a petition under Article 15 of the Rome Statute, which gives the ICC Prosecutor the power to initiate investigations based on information received about crimes within the court’s jurisdiction.

The murder was committed by a violent mob: Law firm

Doughty Street Chambers law firm, in its petition, has highlighted allegations of murder of 400 Awami League leaders and workers since July 2024, many of whom were killed by violent mobs. “There are reasonable grounds to believe that the alleged crimes constitute crimes against humanity, including murder and torture, which warrants the Prosecutor opening an investigation,” Chambers said in a statement.

It said this communication is supported by witness statements (with video evidence) detailing the brutal murders. “There is no realistic prospect of a fair investigation or prosecution of these crimes in Bangladesh and this will result in impunity for the perpetrators,” the statement said.

Sheikh Hasina’s big statement

In her new audio statement uploaded on the Awami League party’s Facebook page late on Wednesday (29 October 2025) and publicized on other social media platforms on Thursday (30 October 2025), Sheikh Hasina said, ‘Awami League cannot be harassed through attacks and court cases, this will be proved this time. Awami League is a party formed by the land of Bangladesh and its people.

78-year-old Hasina is facing several cases in Bangladesh. He was ousted from power on August 5 last year after a massive student movement in the country. After this, Yunus took over as the chief advisor to the interim government.
