A major stampede broke out on the occasion of Ekadashi on Saturday at Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple located in Kashibugga in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh. 9 people have died in this accident, while many devotees have also been injured.

According to the information, due to Kartik month, a large number of devotees had reached the temple for darshan. The crowd of devotees became so large that the local administration and temple management could not control the situation. A stampede broke out due to the sudden pushing and shoving. People started falling on each other due to which chaos spread. Relief and rescue operations are underway and the injured have been admitted to the nearest hospital.

CM Chandrababu Naidu expressed grief

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has expressed deep sorrow over this painful incident. He said, “The incident of stampede at Venkateswara temple in Kasibugga is very sad. The death of the devotees is heartbreaking. I express my condolences to the families of the deceased.” He has instructed the officials to immediately provide better medical facilities for the treatment of the injured. He has asked the local administration and public representatives to reach the spot and monitor the relief and rehabilitation works. The state government has ordered an investigation into the accident. Senior police and administration officials have reached the spot and are keeping an eye on the situation.

CMO of Andhra Pradesh gave this information

A statement issued by Andhra Pradesh CMO said, “This incident occurred due to the gathering of a large number of devotees in the temple on the occasion of Ekadashi. Police and administration teams are on the spot, efforts are on to bring the situation under control.”

State Agriculture Minister K. Achannaidu immediately reached the accident site. He talked to the temple authorities and administrative officials and took information about the incident and monitored the relief and rescue operations.

The minister assured that the state government will provide best medical care to all the injured and a detailed investigation will be conducted into the incident. At present, additional police force has been deployed at the spot to control the crowd and prevent any possible chaos.
