If you live in Delhi and have a diesel car older than 10 years or a petrol car older than 15 years, then this news is a relief for you. Delhi government has now made a major change related to NOC (No Objection Certificate) for old vehicles. Whereas earlier there was a strict time limit of one year to obtain this certificate, now the government has completely removed this limit.

What was the old testament?

  • To control pollution in Delhi, there is already a ban on old vehicles. Under the “Guidelines of Handling and End of Life Vehicles in Public Places of Delhi, 2024”, there was a rule that if the registration of a vehicle has been de-registered, then its owner could apply for NOC within one year of the end of the registration. If the vehicle owner did not apply within this one year time limit, he would neither be able to transfer his vehicle to another state nor get it scrapped. For this reason, lakhs of old vehicles were stuck in Delhi, neither could they be used nor could they be removed. Due to this, both traffic jams and pollution were increasing in the city.
  • Delhi Transport Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh said that in the review of the old rule, it was found that the limit of one year had become a major hindrance for the citizens. He said, “By removing the NOC deadline, vehicle owners will be able to responsibly take their old vehicles out of Delhi. This will reduce the congestion of old vehicles in the city and reduce pollution.”

What does the New Testament say?

  • Now Delhi Government has completely abolished this one year NOC limit. This means that now any vehicle owner, no matter how much time has passed since his car was de-registered, can apply for NOC at any time. Now diesel cars older than 10 years and petrol cars older than 15 years can be re-registered in any other state of the country. This decision is a relief for those people who want to drive, sell or transfer their old vehicle to other states. This new decision will reduce environmental pollution, reduce traffic, and people will not face any legal problems in selling or transferring their old vehicles.

Will it be easy to sell an old car now?

  • In fact, now under the new system, selling or transferring an old car has become easier than ever. Now the owner of a de-registered vehicle can obtain NOC at any time and re-register or sell his car in any state of the country. This will have two big benefits – first, the number of old vehicles from Delhi will reduce, which will reduce both traffic and pollution. Secondly, vehicle owners will now not only get the legal option of scrapping but also the legal option of selling and transferring.
