Recruitment in the Indian Army is done through many mediums. There is direct recruitment on some posts while competitive examinations are conducted for some. First of all, if we talk about military recruitment, then 10th or 12th pass youth can apply for it. If a candidate wants to become an officer then he can give NDA exam after 12th or CDS exam after graduation. Apart from this, engineering candidates can join the army through technical entry scheme, while separate recruitment is also done for the youth of medical or nursing field.

The educational qualification for recruitment in the army is decided according to the post. For the post of Soldier General Duty (GD), the candidate must have at least 10th pass. For clerk, store keeper or technical posts, it is necessary to pass 12th class with Science, Commerce or Arts subject. To become an officer, a candidate has to complete graduation from a recognized university. Whereas for Technical Entry Scheme, at least 60 percent marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) in 12th are required.

What is the age limit?

Age limit also plays an important role in army recruitment. For Soldier GD, the age is kept between 17.5 years to 21 years, whereas for Clerk, Technical or Tradesman posts, candidates between 17.5 to 23 years can apply. The age limit for NDA exam has been fixed at 16.5 to 19.5 years and for CDS exam it has been fixed at 19 to 25 years. Reserved category candidates are given age relaxation as per government rules.

What is physical standard?

Every candidate has to fulfill certain physical standards. Height should be at least 157 cm, weight is decided according to age and height and chest should be at least 77 cm which after expansion should be up to 82 cm. The physical fitness test includes exercises like 1.6 kilometer run, pull-ups, push-ups and balance test. Apart from all this, medical test is also necessary in which eyes, ears, teeth, heart and other tests are done to ensure that the candidate is completely healthy.

Selection Process

The selection process takes place in several stages. First of all the candidate has to apply online by visiting joinindianarmy.nic.in website. After this, computer based examination i.e. CEE is conducted. In this, questions are asked from subjects like General Knowledge, Mathematics, Reasoning and English. After this, selection is done on the basis of physical fitness test, medical examination and finally merit list.
