The first Test of the 2-Test series to be played between India and South Africa will be played in Kolkata from 14th November. Before the Kolkata Test, important news has come regarding the Indian squad which is related to all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy.
BCCI has informed on its social media platform ‘X’ that all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been released from the Test team. Nitish will join the India A team and play the ODI series against South Africa A in Rajkot. After the conclusion of the ODI series, he will be included in the Indian Test team for the second Test.
Indian team assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has also confirmed the release of Nitish Kumar Reddy from the first Test. Along with this, he said that in place of Nitish Reddy, wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel will be included in India’s playing eleven as a specialist batsman. Rishabh Pant will handle the responsibility of wicketkeeping.
Dhruv Jurel is already a part of the Indian Test squad. Dhruv had presented a strong claim for his place in the playing eleven by scoring centuries in both the innings of the second unofficial Test against South Africa. Jurel also scored a century in the West Indies Test series. In such a situation, it will be difficult for the Indian team to ignore him.
The idea of the Indian team management and coach Gautam Gambhir is to develop Nitish Kumar Reddy as a specialist all-rounder in the Test format. For this reason Reddy is being given continuous opportunities. Reddy was part of the Indian team in the Australia and England Test series. During the Australia tour, Reddy impressed as a batsman and scored a century. He was not effective on the England tour. Reddy has scored 386 runs and taken 8 wickets in 9 tests.
