Jamia Millia Islamia located in Delhi does not need any identity. Besides, this institute is always in the news for its special reservation system. It is one of the few universities in the country which has got the status of minority educational institution. After a special decision of the court, Jamia Millia Islamia got this status under Article 30 (1) of the Indian Constitution, due to which the system of special reservation for Muslim students came into force here.
In Jamia Millia Islamia, 30 percent seats in each program are reserved for Muslim students. If there are 100 seats in a course, then 30 seats are given only to Muslim candidates. Muslim women have also been given special opportunities by the university. In every program, 10 percent seats have been reserved for Muslim women.
10% reservation for Muslim OBC and ST
Also, 10 percent seats are reserved for OBC and Scheduled Tribe (ST) category students of Muslim community. However, this reservation will be available only to non-creamy layer candidates. For this, it is necessary for the candidates to submit the certificates included in the list of the Central Government. If seats remain vacant in these 10% reserved seats (women or OBC/ST category), then those seats are transferred to General Muslim category.
5% reservation for disabled candidates
In Jamia, 5% seats are also reserved for disabled students. Different types of disabilities are given in it. These include conditions like impaired vision, hearing loss, difficulty in walking, mental disability, thalassemia, hemophilia, Parkinson’s.
5% reservation for students of Jamia schools
Apart from this, students who have passed their 10th or 12th examination from Jamia schools also get the benefit. 5% seats in the university are reserved for internal students. That means, those who have done their schooling from Jamia are given priority in admission.
Who can study in Jamia
Although Jamia Millia Islamia is a minority institution, students from every religion and state can take admission here. A large number of seats are also open for non-Muslim students and every year thousands of students from across the country apply here.
