Veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra recently came into discussion regarding his health. Due to age, he had difficulty in breathing and some health issues, due to which fans became very worried. Not only this, rumors about his health also started spreading.
But on November 12, his health improved and he was discharged from the hospital. His wife Hema Malini also expressed relief and thanked the fans. Dharmendra and Hema’s love story is considered one of the most beautiful stories of Bollywood, but Dharmendra has once told that he had his first feeling of love long before he met Hema ji.
Who was Dharmendra’s first choice?
Dharmendra lived in a small village in Punjab in his childhood, that too before the partition of 1947. His first choice was a girl from the same village, Hamida, who was the daughter of his school teacher. Hamida was elder to him, she studied in eighth class and Dharmendra was in sixth.
Once Dharmendra had come to Salman Khan’s show ‘Dus Ka Dum’ with his son Bobby Deol, Dharmendra smilingly told how he used to secretly look at Hamida and wished that he could sit near her. He had said, “We kept saying everything in our minds… kept sighing coldly… the person in front of us did not know anything.”
Hamida never got to know about his feelings because Dharmendra was very shy and he never expressed his feelings. He kept this childhood first love hidden in his heart, and later immortalized the same feeling forever by writing it in a poem.
Dharmendra narrated the story of love
When Bobby Deol mentioned that poem in the show, Dharmendra told that he had written this poem during his school days, when the country had not even been divided. He said, “I used to study then… there was no partition.” Then he narrated the story of that innocent love of his childhood, “I was young, my age was also innocent. There was a girl with whom I felt like going.
She was our 8th class student and I was in 6th. She was the daughter of our school teacher, her name was Hamida.” At the time of partition in 1947, Hamida went to Pakistan with her family and Dharmendra remained in India. Both never met again, but the memories of their first love always remained in Dharmendra’s heart.
He also recalled those sweet, innocent conversations, “She would smile softly and I would walk towards her. She would remain silent and I would bow my head. She would ask something else and I would answer something else. She would say, ‘Don’t be sad, Dharam… everything will be fine.’ She’d walk away and I’d just be like, ‘What was the question, man?'”
