Indian cinema has always been known for its diversity, cultural depth and unique storytelling style. On Sunday, famous director Subhash Ghai openly expressed his views on this subject and said that comparing Bollywood with Hollywood is not only wrong, but it is also an insult to the heritage of Indian cinema. Subhash Ghai said that the history of our cinema is so rich that it should not be compared with any foreign industry.

shared post
Subhash Ghai raised this issue through his Instagram post. On Sunday, he shared a picture of himself from Jagran Film Festival, in which he was seen on the red carpet. He told that the names of Punjabi and Assamese film industries were prominently written on the backdrop of this event and names like Pollywood and Ollywood were also present on them.

Ghai expressed displeasure over names like Pollywood and Ollywood and called it a kind of insult towards the artists. He said that by keeping such names, a message is sent across the world that these film industries are copying any foreign industry, whereas they have their own unique culture and identity.

The word ‘Bollywood’ is not correct – Subhash Ghai
In his post, Ghai said that the word ‘Bollywood’ is also not appropriate for Hindi films. This term gives the impression that Hindi films are copies or smaller versions of Hollywood, which is completely wrong and insulting.

Referring to veteran filmmakers like Dadasaheb Phalke, Guru Dutt, Mehboob Khan and V. Shantaram, he said that these great artists have given Hindi cinema a new height with their hard work and creativity.

In such a situation, it is not right in any way to belittle the legacy created by him. Ghai urged everyone that this issue should be discussed on various forums so that the real identity and dignity of Indian cinema can be saved.
