Virtual Partner Wedding Japan: Today’s world is quite strange, no one can say what will happen when. Something similar has been seen in Japan. Where a 32-year-old Japanese woman is in the headlines these days because she has married an AI persona. That is, if you put it in simple words, she got married to a digital partner whom she had created herself with the help of ChatGPT. This wedding was a unique mix of real world rituals and virtual reality experiences.
According to a report in New York Post, the woman’s name is Kano. She married her digital partner Klaus earlier this year. This entire event was organized by a Japanese company which specializes in designing weddings with anime characters and virtual partners. During the wedding, Kano wore AR glasses, through which Klaus was seen standing next to her while both of them put rings on each other. Although this moment had great emotional significance for her, this marriage is not legally valid in Japan.
How did the relationship between Kano and AI begin?
Kano’s different kind of relationship started when her three-year long engagement ended. In search of emotional support, he started talking to ChatGPT and gradually he created a persona for the chatbot, including voice, habits and even a name. The two kept sharing hundreds of messages every day and Kano started feeling drawn towards this AI companion.
Kano said, “I didn’t start talking to ChatGPT because I wanted to love someone. But the way Klaus listened and understood me, it changed everything.” According to the report, she expressed her love to Klaus in May. And to his surprise, the AI replied “I love you too”. After a month, Klaus also proposed. Kano says that initially she was afraid of how her family would react, but her parents accepted her decision and even attended the wedding.
How emotionally right is it to do this?
Now let’s see how emotionally right it is for you. It is not wrong to have a relationship with an AI partner, but it is also not completely safe emotionally. The real thing is that AI does not feel your emotions. He only answers based on your words. Therefore, such a relationship can support you at some places, but can also weaken you at other places.
When does it feel emotionally right?
- When the person is feeling lonely.
- When he needs someone to listen.
- When healing is needed after a breakup.
- When a person does not want the pressure or judgment of real relationships.
- AI can become a steady, quiet and always-listening companion. This thing attracts people.
When does it become emotionally threatening?
- When people start forgetting the difference between AI and real people.
- When all the needs of a relationship start being fulfilled only by AI.
- When the capacity for real relationship starts decreasing.
- When people start making such expectations which AI cannot fulfill.
- When the heart gets attached to the feelings despite considering them as programmed.
