International Men’s Day 2025: We often hear and read about many special days like Women’s Day, Girls’ Day, Mother’s Day, Women’s Empowerment. But do you know that a special day is also celebrated for men in the world. International Men’s Day is celebrated every year on 19 November. This day is an opportunity to say thanks to those men who tirelessly fulfill their responsibilities in their family, society and relationships.
The interesting thing is that there is very little talk about the emotions, stress, pressure or mental health related to men. This is the reason why International Men’s Day was started so that the world can understand the contributions and struggles of men. Meanwhile, a question often arises in the minds of people that in whose mind this idea came, whether it was started by a man or a woman, then let us know who gave the idea of celebrating Men’s Day.
Who gave the idea of celebrating Men’s Day?
Very few people know that the idea of Men’s Day is very old. It was first tried to be celebrated in the 1960s, however, its true form and true identity was found in 1999. The idea of celebrating Men’s Day on November 19 was given by Trinidad and Tobago historian and professor Dr. Jerome Tilak Singh. Inspired by his father’s contribution, he proposed November 19 as Men’s Day. His thinking was that like Women’s Day, there should be a similar day for men too, so that their problems and their role can also be discussed openly. This idea was later supported by UNESCO and many international organizations and soon this day started being celebrated in many countries of the world.
Who brought Men’s Day to India? You will be surprised to know the truth
Men’s Day was started by a woman in India. This woman was Uma Challa, a writer from Hyderabad. Uma Challa lived in America and from there she started campaigning for men’s rights and the need for a special day for them. Uma said that only women’s problems are discussed in the society. Men are always shown as powerful, but their sacrifices, pressures and emotions are not taken into account. Just as it is Women’s Day, there should be a day of respect for men too. Due to this thinking of Uma Challa, International Men’s Day was celebrated for the first time on a small scale in India in 2007.
