University of Hyderabad is one of the top universities of the country, where thousands of students from all over the country come to study every year. The most discussed thing regarding admission here is the reservation system i.e. the facility of reservation.

On the basis of central government rules, this university gives reservation in seats to many categories of students, so that students of every category get equal opportunity to get higher education. But most of the students do not know how many seats are reserved for which category and on what basis this benefit is available. Today we will tell you complete information in easy language.

First of all let’s talk about SC and ST categories. University of Hyderabad reserves 15% seats in each of its courses for Scheduled Caste (SC) and 7.5% seats for Scheduled Tribe (ST) students. If necessary, inter-change between SC and ST seats is also done, so that no seat remains vacant. Candidates of these categories have to show their caste certificate at the time of interview or counselling, which is issued by the Tehsildar or Divisional Revenue Officer. If any student has trouble in studies, then the university also runs remedial classes for such students.

Additional relief to SC/ST students in PG and Integrated courses

Big relief has been given to SC/ST candidates in PG courses i.e. MA, MSc, MCA, MBA, MPA, MFA and 5-Year Integrated Programmes. The minimum marks requirement for these students is 5% less as compared to General, EWS and OBC. Not only this, if seats remain vacant then mere passing is considered sufficient for SC/ST students. That means, if you are from SC/ST category, you will have more chances to get admission.

27% reservation for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) students

Now let us talk about OBC category students. According to the rules of the Central Government, 27% seats in the university are reserved for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates. The thing to note is that the OBC certificate issued by the state government is not valid. Only that OBC-NCL certificate is accepted which is in the Central Government format and issued by the competent authority. For M.Phil and PhD, 5% relaxation is given to SC/ST/OBC and PH candidates, so that they can easily fulfill the eligibility.

EWS category gets benefit of 10% seats

After this comes EWS i.e. Economically Weaker Section. According to the government, 10% seats in the University of Hyderabad are reserved for EWS category students. To fall in this category, candidates also have to submit EWS certificate made in government format. From 2019–20, the university increased the seats in PG and Integrated courses and also implemented reservation for EWS students, which benefited thousands of students.

5% supernumerary seats to PWD students

Next in the list of reservation is the physically handicapped (PWD) category. The university gives 5% seats to disabled students. These seats are supernumerary i.e. extra, but in M.Tech, M.Phil and PhD, they are included in the total seats of the course. Here students with 40% or more disability are given relaxation in admission. These seats are for visually challenged, hearing impaired and orthopedically handicapped students. Such students also take part in the entrance test, and if needed, they are also given the facility of extra time and scribe.

Apart from this, the university also gives 5% supernumerary seats to the children of defense personnel (Army, Air Force, Navy, Coast Guard). However, this facility is not for paramilitary forces. For these seats also, students have to appear in the entrance examination and submit all the necessary certificates.

The university also provides separate seats for Kashmiri migrants and students of Jammu and Kashmir. There are supernumerary seats in Integrated and PG courses for Kashmiri migrants, while 2 additional seats are provided by AICTE under the J&K Special Scholarship Scheme.
