It is not easy to make your place in the entertainment industry, especially for women. They have to struggle a lot for this. Recently, Namrata Soni, a well-known makeup artist of Bollywood, has revealed how many difficulties she had to face in her initial days in the industry. He used to receive threats. Although at that time big stars like Shahrukh Khan-Salman Khan stood with him.
Namrata Soni, in an exclusive interview with ANI, talked about the threats and discrimination she faced. He said- ,When I started, I was probably the second female makeup artist in the industry. It was male dominated and it was very scary.,
Threat was received to cut off hand
Namrata said-,Till then there was only a makeup dada and a hair didi. Women were only allowed to do hair, while men were allowed to do make-up. When I came into the industry I didn’t even know this. Whenever I was on the set, the cine union people would come and harass the producers and fine them for hiring a woman make-up artist. They expected us to hide in the vanity van because they didn’t want us to be on the set., Namrata told that my family used to get threatening calls and messages that if I did not stop working, they would have to face problems. He said- ,My mother would receive threatening voicemail-like phone calls on her landline, warning that if I did not stop working, they would cut off my hands.,

The legal battle with the union had changed a lot when in 2014 the Supreme Court lifted the ban on female makeup artists, declaring it illegal. Namrata said- ‘Once these people dragged me out of Filmistan. I had to call Goregaon police to save my team and myself. At one point the union told me that I would never win this case. Namrata told that I realized that all people are not the same. Some people raised their voice in my support. I had people like Karan Johar, Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan, Farah Khan, Sameera Reddy and Preity Zinta, who were very supportive of women in working with women.
