Ashes 2025-26: Michael Vaughan’s strict instructions before the second test, said- ‘England will have to return to the old style in Gabba otherwise…’

In the first Ashes Test played against Australia in Perth, England had to face defeat by 8 wickets in the third session of the second day itself. After the defeat, England had to face criticism for its style of play. The second test is starting from 4th December in Gabba. Former captain Michael Vaughan has given advice to England before the second test.

Michael Vaughan has said that England should adopt their old methods in the day-night Test starting at Gabba.

Speaking to the BBC, Michael Vaughan said, “England have to return to their old way of playing. The team always seems to be running towards danger. This is not a wise approach. I am not saying that you should always play like Geoff Boycott or Alastair Cook, but you have to play according to the merit of the ball.”

Vaughan said that England has not won any five-match series in the last three-four years. England’s current approach is not working. They should adopt the old methods.

The former captain said that we have to show game awareness. They have to play much better. We will have to rely on fast bowlers in the next test. Only he can take 20 wickets. I would like to see Josh Tongue in the playing eleven.

Former all-rounder Ian Botham had also criticized England’s style of batting.

Speaking to PA news agency, Botham had said that England’s performance in Perth was very bad, there is no other word for it. The team will have to get excited quickly. I’m tired of hearing, ‘This is how we play.’ If I hear this one more time, I think I’ll throw something at the television. If you play like this, you can go home now, because this way the result can be 5-0. They need to understand this. Wearing the England jersey is a matter of pride. You have to play seriously. Gotta come out of baseball mode.

England’s batting was very disappointing in the Perth Test. Including both the innings, England could play 67.3 overs.

Gaba Test will be played with pink ball. Australia’s record in the pink ball test has been excellent. Australia has won 13 out of 14 tests. In this, three wins have been achieved against England.
