In the meeting of the leaders of the ruling party and the opposition with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday, it was decided that the topics of completion of 150 years of the composition of the national song Vande Mataram and electoral reforms will be discussed in the House next week. In the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC), it was decided that there will be a discussion on Vande Mataram in the House on coming Monday (8 December 2025), which will be initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It was agreed to discuss election reforms on Tuesday and Wednesday.

After this consensus was reached in the meeting of the ruling party and opposition leaders with Speaker Om Birla, the ongoing deadlock in the Lok Sabha is likely to end. After the BAC meeting, Congress chief whip in Lok Sabha Kodikunil Suresh told reporters, “After the BAC meeting, it was decided to discuss Vande Mataram and election reforms.” There will be a discussion on Vande Mataram on Monday and the Prime Minister will initiate this discussion. After this, election reforms will be discussed on Tuesday and Wednesday and the time can be extended if necessary.

When will electoral reforms be discussed in the House?

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said, in the all-party meeting chaired by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, it was decided that the 150th anniversary of the national song Vande Mataram will be discussed in the Lok Sabha on Monday, December 8 from 12 noon. After this, a discussion on election reforms will be organized on Tuesday 9th December from 12 noon.

There was a deadlock in the Lok Sabha on Monday and Tuesday on the issue of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists. Members of opposition parties created ruckus in the House on this issue.
