Suspended Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Humayun Kabir on Saturday laid the foundation stone for the construction of Babri Masjid in Murshidabad, West Bengal. During the program he claimed that the Muslim population of the state will build this mosque at any cost and no one can move even a single brick of it. Kabir says that he is working within the ambit of the Constitution, because just as temples and churches can be built, mosques can also be built.
‘This is our constitutional right’ – Humayun Kabir
Addressing the gathering, Kabir said, ‘I am not doing anything unconstitutional. The Constitution says anyone can build a temple, anyone can build a church and I will build a mosque. It is not written anywhere that Babri Masjid cannot be built.
Kabir claimed that it is also recorded in the Supreme Court decision that Babri Masjid was demolished and the decision to build the temple was taken keeping in mind the Hindu sentiments. He said that if the foundation stone of Ram temple can be laid, then a mosque can also be built.
Kabir’s reply on threats and legal matters
Kabir told that five cases have been registered against him, but this will not stop the construction work. He said, ‘Whoever has Allah with him, no one can stop him.’
He claimed that about 4 crore Muslims live in Bengal and they have the right to build mosques. He informed that hospital, guest house and meeting hall will be included in this project costing Rs 300 crore.
BJP’s attack – ‘This is not a religious, but a political agenda’
After this incident, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) targeted the state government. The party alleges that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is promoting religious polarization in the state. BJP leaders raised questions as to why Kabir was suspended late after his controversial statements, and alleged that the entire matter was related to election strategy.

Tarun Chugh took aim
BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh, raising the issue of Babar and Babri Masjid, said, ‘Babar was the same whom Guru Nanak Dev Ji had described as a tyrant. Who had turned the rivers Ganga, Yamuna and Saryu red with the blood of Hindus. The country will never accept any monument or construction in his name.
Assam Assembly Deputy Speaker accused TMC
Deputy Speaker of Assam Assembly Numal Momin launched a scathing attack and said that TMC’s intention is to make West Bengal an ‘Islamic state’ and Kabir’s move is a reflection of that agenda. Momin said, ‘Babar was an invader who destroyed the culture of India, demolished the Ram temple and built the Babri Masjid on top of it. Humayun Kabir is taking the same thinking forward. This shows the real intentions of TMC. He alleged that TMC in West Bengal is promoting such activities with the aim of appeasing illegal migrant Muslims and converting them into vote banks.
