European Union imposed a fine of Rs 12 thousand crore on X, America and Europe face to face regarding Musk’s company, how did blue tick become the reason?

On December 6, 2025, the big countries of Europe i.e. the European Union imposed a huge fine on Elon Musk’s Company X. This fine is about 120 million euros, i.e. about 140 million dollars. If we convert it into Indian rupees, it is approximately Rs 12.59 thousand crores. This is the first time that the European Union has punished a company using its new law Digital Services Act (DSA).

X’s blue checkmark system became the reason
In 2022, Elon Musk bought Twitter. After that he made major changes in the platform. The largest blue checkmark system. Earlier this checkmark was available only to famous and authentic people, but Musk said that now anyone can get this badge by paying money. The European Union did not like this.

In 2023, the European Union said, ‘This is a fraud. People will think that the account with blue check is authentic, but in reality any fake person can get it by paying money. This increases the risk of falling into the trap of scams, fake accounts and bad people who defraud users.

Additionally, X did not provide complete information about advertisements and did not allow researchers to access public data. The European Union believed that the rules of transparency were being broken due to this, so they started an investigation. But more than a year passed and the investigation seemed to be at a standstill. Finally, on December 6, 2025, the European Union cracked the whip and imposed the fine.

Big uproar due to interference of Trump government
America could not tolerate this at all. The US government said, ‘This is an attack on our companies. We will not remain silent. US Vice President JD Vance immediately tweeted, ‘Brussels (headquarters of the European Union), do not attack our companies in the name of censorship. The European Union should support open dialogue, not attack American companies in the name of nonsense.

Elon Musk read this and happily replied, ‘Thank you very much.’

Attacks by foreign governments on the American people
Then US Secretary of State Marco Rubio adopted a more tough tone. He said, ‘This $140 million fine is an attack by foreign governments not just on X, but on all American tech companies and the American people. Gone are the days of censoring Americans online.

FCC Chairman Brendan Carr also wrote angrily, ‘Europe is subsidizing a backward continent with its own strict rules by collecting taxes from Americans. X is the target because it is a successful American tech company.

European Union clarified
Giving clarification, European Union Technology Commissioner Hanna Virkunen said, ‘This decision is related to the transparency of X. There is no question of censorship in this. The European Union wrote in its report, ‘This deception traps users in scams, fraud by fake people and bad people.’

Big conflict over the rules of the digital world
This fight is not just about fines. This is a big conflict between two continents over the rules of the digital world. America says that free speech is above all, do not harass our companies. Whereas the European Union says that we want security and transparency of users. This fine looks like a big storm.
