American military presence in Iraq is going to end after almost 23 years. Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi has announced that all American troops will leave Iraq by September 30. He gave this information during the meeting with US President Donald Trump in Washington. During this meeting held at the White House, President Trump said that America no longer feels the need to keep its army in Iraq. He said that his government believes that at present there is no need for American military presence there.

America started military operations in Iraq in 2003 and thousands of American soldiers have been deployed there since then. Their numbers have been continuously reduced in recent years. Until recently, there were about 2,500 American soldiers present in Iraq, whose main job was to support the campaign against the Islamic State (ISIS). However, in the last few months the number of soldiers has been further reduced. Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi said that after the withdrawal of American troops, his government will take strict action against armed groups in the country. He clearly said that after September 30, no organization or group will be allowed to possess weapons from outside the country or carry out independent military activities.
